Harmonia Sacra (or "sacred harmony") is the title of a collection of spiritual airs published in England in 1688 by the publisher Henry Playford. Composed exclusively of sacred music, it represented a minor revolution in music publishing, as this type of publication had hitherto been devoted to the secular repertoire. But its real value lies in the extraordinary quality of its musical content. Signed by the most prominent English composers of the time, notably Henry Purcell, John Blow and Matthew Locke, the forty or so arias in this collection are a veritable concentrate of the best that the English stage had to offer in the second half of the 17th century. This concert features a selection, performed for the occasion by Jardin des Voix laureates Rebecca Leggett and Bastien Rimondi, alongside instrumentalists from Les Arts Florissants conducted from the harpsichord by William Christie.
At the end of the candlelit concerts: the "Meditations at the Dawn of Night".

Short concerts of sacred repertoire by candlelight, the Night Dawn Meditations bring each day of the Festival to a close in a contemplative atmosphere, without applause from the audience.

Accessible only to holders of a Candlelight Concert ticket (included in the ticket).
