A tidal wave of vitamin D

With its generous sunshine (approximately 2,000 hours per year), the Atlantic coast enjoys a gentle, temperate climate. Ideal weather to make the most of South Vendée Atlantic and its fine-sand beaches. Whether you like swimming, fishing or water sports or prefer to just relax, you will find the perfect beach for you.

The International Blue Flag Committee awarded the quality label to the beaches of La Barrique and Grand’Plage in 2019. Indeed, this certification rewards our efforts to reconcile tourism and environmental issues.

For a family day out, the beaches of L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer and the peninsula of La Faute-sur-Mer are ideal places for children to play and swim, with lifeguards and supervised bathing in some cases.

Besides which, our beaches are protected from the ocean currents by the nearby island, Île de Ré, just the other side of the Pertuis Breton strait. So parents and grandparents prefer taking children to the beaches of South Vendée Atlantic, where the waves are harmless and the water is warmer.

We love this very long beach. It’s clean and there’s plenty of room, both in and out of the water. Ideal for family fun in the waves and for peacefully building sandcastles. The walk to the beach is pleasant too, thanks to the boardwalks.

For beach bookworms

Other beaches, like Grand’Plage at La Faute-sur-Mer, offer water sports, games and even a beach library. When you’re on holiday, the library comes to you. Newspapers, magazines and books for all ages and tastes !

Beaches for everyone

There are disabled bathing facilities at approximately half of our beaches. You can enjoy the water too, thanks to the special amphibian wheelchairs provided. However, Les Bélugas at La-Faute-sur-Mer and the bathing area at L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer are the only beaches to be easily accessible for wheelchairs.

If you want to perfect a tan or just find out how it feels to “strip off”, the Pointe d’Arçay nudist beach at La Faute-sur-Mer will be your next choice. This has to be the biggest nudist beach in Vendée and it stretches for miles. What’s more, its natural surroundings at the edge of the nature reserve, the dunes and the pines, make it the ideal place to start.

You won’t be dogged here !

Why not bring your four-legged friend on holiday? At some of our beaches, dogs are welcome if kept on a lead. Moreover the destination South Vendée atlantic is part of the club Toutourisme. We are committed to giving a special welcome to dogs and their owners.

Fur and feathers don’t always mix well on our protected, unspoilt coast, so remember to ask at the Tourist Office first.
