Here, in the Maison du Maître de Digues, lived a key figure in the Marais Poitevin: LE MAÎTRE DE DIGUES. Elected by the owners of the Petit Poitou marshland syndicate, he had heavy responsibilities: ensuring that the dykes, canals and locks were properly maintained and operated; and also enforcing compliance with the regulations by the marsh's inhabitants!
