La Faute-sur-Mer is a sandy peninsula in constant morphological evolution. Bordered on one side by the river Lay and on the other side by the ocean and over 10km of coastline, its width does not exceed 2km. From year to year, the peninsula stretches and the sand stacks on the ocean side.

The National Nature Reserve of La Casse de la Belle Henriette

Created in 2011, this reserve covers 833 acres, between LaTranche-sur-Mer and La Faute-sur-Mer. Since autumn 2012, it is managed by the LPO and the Agency of Marine Protected Areas with the Departmental Federation of Vendée Hunters as a partner. It is accessible to visitors within the limits and respect of the paths arranged and marked.

The Lay Estuary

Between the pointe d'Arçay and the pointe de l'Aiguillon, opens the Lay estuary where the movements of the tide were reduced by the construction of the Braud and Moricq dams. Between land and sea, fresh water and sea water, the Lay estuary is an environment of exceptional biological productivity.
