Points of interest
Culture in the dry Marshes
Isolated from the floods thanks to adjustments, these lands are very productive (corn, wheat, sunflower...). Yields here are as important as those in the Beauce.
The Gates of the Chapter
You have to imagine the sea all around you and the constraints of high and low tides. Today in ruins, these gates were built in 1740 on the principle of an airlock that allowed to conserve water, even at low tide, and thus to make commercial traffic more efficient.
La Maison Eclusière
It was the office house of the lockmaster who worked under the orders of the Master of Dikes. On it you can discover the "fouène" (fern), a long-handled fork with which we fished eels.
This shorebird (Peewit) measures 28-31 cm, has a black and white plumage and a long, distinctive, tapered black crest that makes it easily recognizable. Its fast wing flap produces a very particular sound that reminds the noise that the van (sort of large sieve) makes in the hands of the valve, hence its name of what translates to valve in French (vanneau) .
