In South Vendée Atlantic you have plenty of choice of parks and gardens, be they public or private, in French, English or Italian style, or even ecofriendly.

You’ll find at least one park in virtually every town and village of this Destination. Many have picnic tables, or at least a park bench where you can enjoy a moment of quiet contemplation.

Public parks

If you have to choose, we recommend, among others, the Dumaine park in Luçon, with its English, Baroque and French-style gardens, its ponds and bandstand. Or the 5 Senses park at Saint-Juire-Champgillon, or the Parc des Pineaux. But there are many others that we recommend you explore, whatever the season…

Remarkable Gardens

South Vendée Atlantic also boasts some Remarkable Gardens. This label distinguishes parks of cultural, historical or botanical interest, and those that are especially beautiful. It is awarded by the Ministry of Culture. From a total of three such parks in Vendée, two of them are in South Vendée Atlantic. They are the Chaligny gardens at Sainte-Pexine and the Jardin du Bâtiment in Thiré. Tours and activities are organised all year round, such as the Rencontres du Patrimoine et de la Création, or the Baroque music and floral arts festival, “Dans les Jardins de William Christie”.

Secret Gardens

Other, more secret gardens can only be visited during special events such as the Rendez-Vous aux Jardins days or the Neurodon fundraising campaign. For example: La Sallière at La Caillère-Saint-Hilaire, Montjoie at Sainte-Pexine, La Chevallerie at Sainte-Gemme-la-Plaine, la Petite Coudraie at Sainte-Hermine, or the Château de Saint-André at Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais… Ask at our information desks and let us guide you to our hidden treasures.

In conclusion, you’ll have gathered that our Destination, South Vendée Atlantic, is brimming with beautiful parks and gardens. Whether you’re a botany fan or just enjoy being in a natural environment, you’ll find what you’re looking for here! Come and admire the colours of the changing seasons.
