Here, in the Maison du Maître de Digues, lived a key figure in the Marais Poitevin: LE MAÎTRE DE DIGUES. Elected by the owners of the Petit Poitou marshland syndicate, he had heavy responsibilities: ensuring the maintenance and smooth running of the dykes, canals and locks, as well as enforcing the rules for the marsh's inhabitants!
