HIKE “LE BOIS DES LAVES” (The wood of lava)
This trail offers a walk in the heart of the marsh, where remains a curious little wood: the Bois des Laves. The circuit presents 2 facets of the territory: the wet marsh and the dry marsh. One can easily imagine the small wooded plots that made up the landscape before the consolidation of 1959.

Points of interest
The elver pass
This structure allows small eels to cross the dam by winding it up with brushes stuck upside down. Long considered a mysterious fish, the eel is now threatened with extinction by overfishing of elvers in the Bay of Aiguillon.
The channel of Gressaudes
Dug in 1983, this artificial canal allows to transport the surplus of water from the river Vendée to the canal of the 5 Abbés. Along the way, you can see reeds, which used to be used for the marsh hut roofs.
The wood of the Laves
It is the last flood wood in the winter of the canton. Lower than the communal it was converted into "terrée": woods made up of ditches and conches (small canals), and planted with ash trees cut into tadpoles.
The people of the land
It is formed by a set of well-aligned poplars. These provide wood of "unrolling": thin sheets that will then be used for the manufacture of crates, camembert boxes, plywood..."
