ÉCLUSE DE LA VARENNE

Floating doors of the Varenne, Marais Poitevin, dry marshes.

Description

Lock built in the second half of the 17th century on the old Varenne canal. This structure, which was necessary for the proper functioning of the marsh, was abandoned when the Luçon Canal and the Varenne Canal were straightened and extended in the 19th century.
This work is the property of the Société des Grands Marais de Triaize. They were completely redone in 2010, after the storm Xynthia.
