Wrought iron cross in memory of the 5000 victims of the 3rd battle of Luçon which took place in 1793.

Description

In 1793, Luçon, temporary chief town of the Vendée was led by republican troups. June 22nd, July 30th and August 14th the royal troups tried to seize the town.
August 14th, the Vendée army of 40 000 men crossed the Mainclaye bridge. In front of them, was general Tuncq with 6000 men around the town, in front of the plain of Corpe and the Sainte Gemme forest.
After the victory of the Vendée left wing, the general Tuncq made the most of the lack of coordination of his ennemi and with one shot, created a hazard within his his opponents. The hussars cavalry created a feeling of panic and the plain in Corpe was full of dead bodies.
