The statue of Richelieu by Parisian sculptor Pierre Lenoir (unveiled in 1935) features the figure of Armand Jean du Plessis, the future Cardinal de Richelieu, who was the 25th Bishop of Luçon (from 1606 to 1623).

Description

The monument to Cardinal de Richelieu was built between 1931 and 1935. The work consists of a statue by Parisian sculptor Pierre Lenoir, a pedestal designed by municipal architect Émile Bordelais and executed by masonry contractor Pierre Coudert. The statue of the cardinal was donated by the State, after the City of Luçon refused to accept the statue that was in the courtyard of the Château de Versailles, which was eventually awarded to the City of Richelieu. The plaster model of the statue can be seen at Luçon town hall.
