MAREUIL-SUR-LAY-DISSAIS

The Climate and the Rhythm of the Seasons in Medieval Europe

Description

In the various European courts of the Middle Ages, nature played a central role in medieval thought. It provided for people’s livelihoods, and the seasons marked the key moments in life, for peasants and monarchs alike. Poets and musicians—troubadours, Trouvères and Minnesänger depicted the harshness of life or the abundance of harvests, right up to Francis of Assisi, who gave us his sublime hymn to nature, ‘Laudate si’ – a true ecological manifesto ahead of its time.

Dominique METZLÉ (vocals, harp, flute and percussion), founder of PANDORE and the sole performer on this occasion, holds the Higher Diploma in Early Music from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris. He honed his skills in the medieval repertoire under the guidance of Joël Cohen (Boston Camerata), Andrea Von Ramm (Studio der Frühen Musik), Jordi Savall (Hespérion XX) and Guy Robert (Perceval ensemble), and performs regularly at medieval music festivals.
