Festival “Dans les Jardins de William Christie”

A music festival orchestrated by the famous musician William Christie, in the gardens of his home at Thiré. With musical walks, family workshops, concerts and candlelit meditations, come and discover Baroque music while admiring the very personal gardens of the great musician.

From 23 to 30 August: William Christie's Garden Festival
Every summer since 2012, Les Arts Florissants and the Département de la Vendée have joined forces to offer a unique event combining the pleasure of music and the beauty of gardens... in the Gardens of William Christie. Over the course of a week, the public is invited to discover little-known works from the Baroque repertoire and a remarkable garden in the Vendée, as well as talented young artists at the start of their careers, whom the Festival is showcasing alongside the regular artists of Les Arts Florissants.


Evenings on the Miroir d'eau
23 & 24 August - Les Arts florissants / La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers - Charpentier
Two short operas by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, brought together in a show combining music, dance and theatre, conducted by William Christie and featuring the ten new winners of the Jardin des Voix.

29 & 30 August - Mozart / Beethoven: Pastoral in the Gardens
With Mozart and Beethoven, Paul Agnew continues his exploration of the great classical works, alongside the Arts Florissants orchestra and two exceptional soloists: Théotime Langlois de Swarte and soprano Ana Vieira Leite.


Candlelit concerts
24 & 26 August - Israelis Brünnlein (The Fountain of Israel) - Schein
With the singers of Les Arts Florissants, Paul Agnew tackles for the first time the work of the German composer Johann Hermann Schein, on the border between the Renaissance and the Baroque. What a discovery!

27 August - Sacred Charpentier, celebrated by Les Arts Florissants
To close the season of celebrations for William Christie's 80th birthday, Emmanuel Resche-Caserta and the singers and instrumentalists of Les Arts Florissants pay tribute to one of the conductor's favourite composers: Marc-Antoine Charpentier.

28 & 29 August - Harmonia sacra
Plunge into 17th-century England with this concert featuring some of the finest spiritual arias of the period, composed by Henry Purcell, John Blow, Matthew Locke... all conducted by Maestro Christie!

23 to 30 August - Afternoons in the Gardens
Every afternoon during the Festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie, the artists of Les Arts Florissants invite you to the idyllic setting of the Jardins de William Christie and the Quartier des Artistes for a unique experience combining the beauty of nature and the pleasures of music!


22 August - International symposium
The Royaumont Foundation and Les Arts Florissants are joining forces to organise the symposium "Geneviève Thibault de Chambure: treasures from her collection", to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of musicologist, collector and patron Geneviève de Chambure.
For the final day of lectures, focusing on musical interpretation, participants will be invited to Thiré, on the eve of the launch of William Christie's Dans les Jardins Festival.
