HALLES DE MAREUIL
Once a meeting place, Les Halles was at the heart of the "Haut Bourg" of Mareuil and its commercial activity.
Description
We can trace back their existence to 1779. They were destroyed and rebuilt many times between 1867 and 1920.
From the middle of the 19th century, we could notice an increase in commercial activities with fairs and animal markets. It was a place to share, to meet people, to talk, people came with hope to find good deals but also to break the monotony of their every day lives.
Today, they have lost their importance and are only occasionally used.
