For Penny, painting is a way of translating her feelings into art, with nature and colour as her guiding principles. She enjoys reinterpreting her subjects within a colourful, semi-abstract or abstract style. The result is imaginative, poetic work, evoking personal atmospheres with colours that are mostly vivid and bold, expressing her joie de vivre.
What matters to her is taking pleasure in painting or creating, drawing on her deepest emotions whilst varying her techniques. She shuns routine and creates by blending several techniques: acrylic painting, watercolour enhanced with free-motion machine embroidery, textile art using various dyeing techniques, incorporating engraving and embroidery, collagraphy, and collages for which she prints her own paper using a gel press, not to mention the cyanotype technique, through which she can express her deep love of nature.
