Festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie – Le Violon de Rameau
Description
In 2024, William Christie and the virtuoso violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte performed *Le Violon de Rameau* for the first time at William Christie’s *Dans les Jardins* Festival. Following its success – which led to a recording due to be released by harmonia mundi – the two artists are revisiting this programme, which audiences never tire of, through the lens of an instrument dear to the composer: the violin.
The inspiration for this concert lies in a portrait of Jean-Philippe Rameau attributed to Joseph Aved, in which the musician, far from his usual harpsichord, is depicted holding a violin. This unexpected image serves as the starting point for a musical journey that sheds light on a more intimate and lesser-known facet of Rameau’s world. Opera arias, excerpts from dance suites and sonatas by composers and violinists who were contemporaries of Rameau thus make up this programme, which highlights the refined dialogue between the violin and the harpsichord.
