ÉGLISE SAINT PIERRE

The Saint-Pierre de Lairoux church succeeded a priory-parish that depended on the abbey of Saint-Michel-en-l'Herm. Rebuilt in the 19th century, it has only kept its 15th century choir. Marais poitevin, dry marsh.

Description

Formely depending on the Saint-Michel-en-L'Herm Abbey, the Saint-Pierre Church in Lairoux was damaged during the 100 year war in 1427 then during the religious wars in 1568. The Church has two parts : the choir from the 14th century and the nave rebuilt in the 19th century. The church still has its clock of which you can still see the mecanics of it. Those particular mecanics date back to 1925 and were redone in 1940. We can also see the wooden altar.
