Festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie – L’harmonie des nations
Description
Concert conceived and presented by the Early Music Department of the Juilliard School in New York
Conductor: Robert Mealy
Three nations, yet a harmony that transcends borders: this is the vision behind this programme, conceived and presented exclusively by the Early Music Department of the Juilliard School in New York for this one-off concert. From Georg Muffat’s Holy Roman Empire to Arcangelo Corelli’s Italy, via Jean-Baptiste Lully’s court at Versailles, it brings together three great voices of the European Baroque. All three forged a profoundly cosmopolitan musical language, at the crossroads of Italian, French and Germanic traditions.
Today, they inspire a meeting of two continents: on the one hand, the students of the Juilliard School in New York, and on the other, the musicians of Les Arts Florissants. Together, through their musical performance, they present the fruits of this collaboration, under the direction of Robert Mealy, who has led the Juilliard School’s historical performance programme since 2012. An invitation to a European journey bringing together music from France, Italy and Germany of the late 17th century!
