On Christmas Eve, everyone gathers round Bernadette, a colourful mother who adores her sons, and
especially her youngest…

The evening begins, as it always does when they get together, with the three brothers bickering; despite their age, they’re still squabbling over which of them is the matriarch’s favourite. But an unexpected announcement is about to turn the dinner upside down and provoke the anger of one of them, who then decides to go out and buy some cigarettes to calm down. Hours pass, but he doesn’t come back.

Five years later, as the family raise a toast in his memory, he returns, thinking he’d only been away for five minutes…
