An iconic composer of the golden age of music during the reign of Charles II and the Restoration, Henry Purcell delivers music that evokes a rich and vibrant world. Solo arias such as ‘If music be the food of love’ exude intimacy and depth, whilst excerpts from the incidental music – beginning with the overture to *Welcome to all the pleasures* – draw the audience into the heart of a festive spirit. Through this interplay of moods – blending brilliance, tenderness and melancholy, all fuelled by vocal virtuosity and collective jubilation – this concert invites the audience to immerse themselves in Purcell’s complex orchestral style.
This musical celebration, staged by Paul Agnew and choreographed by Anahi Passi – who previously collaborated with Mourad Merzouki on *The Fairy Queen*, presented at William Christie’s *Dans les Jardins* Festival in 2023 – showcases a new generation of Baroque voices through three winners of the Jardin des Voix competition. It promises to provide a vibrant finale to this 15th edition of the Festival, ahead of a tour set to begin with a performance at the Philharmonie de Paris in February 2027.
